Week 1

My first week abroad has been amazing and exhausting. I am finally completely over jet-lag and I am starting to become familiar with the area surrounding my apartment. I have spent this week mostly exploring the town and trying to catch up on sleep. Friday night we went to the Ballet at the theater here in Orvieto. The performance was Swan Lake. Yesterday I got to do a little some sketching and painting. Tomorrow we will start our regular classes. Next Friday we have our first field trip to Rome. I also have an Italian cooking class next Saturday.

I have included some pictures of Orvieto so you can get an idea of where I'm living. These are all picture from the town on top of the hill where I am living and going to school. I have yet to explore any of the town at the base of the hill which can be seen in a couple of the pictures.

Our Apartment

Our apartment is super cute and has a lot of character. There are five of us living here. There is very limited storage space for cloths and such but other than that it's great. It's two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Aeropuerto!

Woke up this morning at 4:30 a.m. to get to KCI airport for our 7:50 flight that was delayed an hour. I am now sitting in Dulles airport in Washington D.C. We have a five hour lay-over here so all 30 of us took over gate C1 and set up camp. Next time you hear from me I will be in Italy!

Pre-Italy

Benvenuto! Welcome family and friends. If you're reading this you have found my blog which I will be using to document my time abroad. Writing isn't really my thing so I will probably include lots of picture and keep the text to a minimum.

I will be leaving on January 17th for Orvieto, Italy and I can hardly wait. Orvieto is a small town in Umbria about an hour north of Rome. I will be living and going to school there for about four months. I will also be traveling to several other cities throughout Italy and a hopefully a few in other countries. I invite you all to keep up with my adventures and make comments if you like.

May the packing begin...
